Hi Friends,
The season of change continues this month as a powerful Total Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio begins to transform and rebuild our finances and our authority structures. Last month on April 30th the Solar Eclipse in Taurus opened up a doorway over the next six month for us to change our values and beliefs with regards to money, power and possessions in our lives. The sign of Taurus is all about getting back to the basics of life; it’s a heavy earth sign that values stability and reliability. Over the course of the next year we will want to simplify our lives, get rid of clutter, people and situations that don’t serve us anymore, and begin to view the world in a more practical matter, another words, getting back to the basics.
However, in order to start a new, we must destroy or transform the past and that’s where this month’s Total Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio comes in. A Lunar Eclipse is a cycle that generally brings things to an end or a completion. There is a realization that something has to change. Since this is the sign of Scorpio (sign of Death & Rebirth) this suggests that we must put a stake through the heart of the evil banking system that has been controlling humanity over the past few hundred years. A new system is emerging; think Bitcoin, digital currency, gold, silver, etc. Fortunately the powers that have been overseeing these organizations are beginning to lose control, but that does mean they won’t go kicking and screaming.
This month is filled with lots of action as three planets make their way into the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. Venus, Jupiter, and Mars enter this fiery sign to ramp up the adrenaline making for a very productive time. Aries is a pioneering spirit that is up for any challenge, this month we find ourselves wanting to break free from limitations and venture off into new experiences. However, Mercury stations retrograde in Gemini on May 10th, will gives us a collective pause to finish overdue projects instead of starting new ones. Journeys and communications may be a bit wonky going into the first week of June.
The first of these planets to enter Aries will be Venus on May 2nd. The old adage is “Where Venus goes, our hearts go”. Her energy relates to the kind of surroundings that make us feel comfortable. She is a yin planet, meaning that she is not so much pro-active, but rather, that what she wants she draws to her. One of the things Venus wants is social interaction. She wants the happy, fun, “meaningful” part of relationships. She is lovely, refined, and beautiful. When Venus is in the sign ruled by Mars, her male counterpart, she gains the energy to go out and get what she wants. During this transit we find ourselves being lured into the sensual world of desire, pleasure, aesthetics, and physical sensations.
On May 10th Mercury begins its backward motion in Gemini. As talkative as Mercury in Gemini is, the retrograde period can usher in a time of putting it all down in writing instead of vocalizing it. We tend to go within when this planet is retrograde, rethinking, revising, and revisiting things in our minds. Lots of old ideas and decisions will be reviewed. Overlooked errors will find their way into our awareness and communications of all kinds just do not come out right. What you say gets misinterpreted, you write down the wrong number, the computer acts up, your flight gets delayed or cancelled, things you buy don’t work….the list goes on and on. If you can wait, put off making those BIG decisions until Mercury turns direct next month.
Later in the day, Jupiter enters Aries for the first time in twelve years. Jupiter visits each sign for about twelve month or so. Over the course of the next year they’ll be lots of running around, as Jupiter moves through this cardinal fire sign. Cardinal signs are the starters, the go-getters among us. When that quality is combined with the spark of fire, you’re going to get moving. Jupiter is no slouch either being that it’s a ruled by a fire sign as well, Sagittarius. Jupiter’s effects are to expand our experiences, our knowledge, and our understanding. Jupiter represents optimism, growth, generosity, joy, and abundance.
With Jupiter in Aries, we identify strongly with our own opinions, beliefs, and perceptions and we may take it quite personally if others disagree with them. We make our own opportunities, and we are at our best when we are thinking in big terms, taking calculated risks, and displaying confidence. More specifically with Jupiter in Aries, we attract the best fortune when we take the lead, initiate, inspire others, and demonstrate enthusiasm and courage. Faith in ourselves can bring about positive circumstances or good luck during this transit.
Powerful changes and endings are on the horizon as a Total Lunar Eclipse occurs on May 16th in Scorpio. The Taurus-Scorpio polarity deals with the balance between all that is mine (Taurus) and all that is yours (Scorpio). It also emphasizes the concept of form (Taurus) versus transformation (Scorpio). While Taurus deals with physical matter, personal values, material goods, possessions, and security, Scorpio rules the destruction of form, shared possessions, change, and transformation. The Sun in Taurus encourages happiness with the simple, tangible things in life, while the Scorpio Moon draws our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries.
Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do. This Full Moon is about emotional declarations and realizations. Something has been building up inside of us, likely of an intimate nature, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out or transform it. Over the coming months, we will discover what this declaration means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings — we need to express them. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between collecting and sharing, safety and passion, stability and a need for change.
Full Moons are about exposing or illuminating issues that are already there, but that have not yet been dealt with. Where does this Full Moon fall in your natal chart? Because this Full Moon is a Total Lunar Eclipse and part of a set of eclipses falling along the Taurus-Scorpio axis (from November 2021 to October 2023), it holds more weight and is one of several cosmic pushes toward understanding and improving our attachments, financial state, and intimate life. This Lunar Eclipse harmonizes with Mars, Neptune, and Pluto, but forms a square to Saturn. We have conviction and tenacity, and we are willing to make necessary changes, but there can be blockages and obstacles to manage.
Hopefully we’ll have a better time of understanding our motives on May 20th when the Sun enters Gemini. When the Sun moves into the mutable, air sign of Gemini, ruled by the planet Mercury, its energy is flexible, quick, and filled with curiosity. When the life-giving forces of the Sun shine through Gemini, we get the incessant questions of the young child who wants to know everything there is to know, and whose mind soaks up the answers like a sponge. Gemini is about ideas: talking about them, thinking about them, swirling around in them. While the Sun, whose energy defines life itself, is traveling through this sign, we really need those facts and figures and trivia. We thrive on variety and thirst for change.
And speaking of change, on May 24th action-oriented Mars enters its home sign of Aries. At last! A true home for our Warrior! Mars in the fire sign of Aries is at his best. The Aries desire to get things moving is just the right place for the planet that has all the physical strength to make it happen. We’ll all feel a surge of energy while Mars visits the first sign of the zodiac. It’s as if we’ve all been working out at the gym for a while and have these tremendous reserves we didn’t know about. We will have to watch out for being overly feisty and confrontational though. Neither this sign nor this planet is known for realizing that other people have needs too or that there are diplomatic ways of getting what we want. Let’s hope the impulse to reach out and punch someone doesn’t become a reality in your life.
Fortunately on May 28th Venus enters Taurus to help us relax and get back to the basics. While Venus moves through Taurus, one of the signs she rules, her energy will be exceptionally beautiful and peaceful. Venus in Taurus truly enjoys the feel of the finer things in life. During this transit we are moved by our desire to be sensual, possessive and content. We seek security and value which lasts a long time. Our appetite for pleasure is strong, Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items of value.
Our motivation will be through the roof on May 29th when Mars conjunct Jupiter in Aries. Mars conjunct Jupiter transit is ideal for starting anything that requires energy, initiative, and courage. Physical strength is heightened, as is your instinct for how and when to start something. We’ll have the self-confidence to achieve major success at this time. It can be in any area of life from career to relationships, but especially anything of a physical nature. The downside to this transit is overconfidence or over-exuberance that has the potential to get us in trouble with gambling, partying or just driving as fast as we can. The good fortune of this transit will only go so far, and you must know when to pull out and slow down.
Our minds will be overloaded on May 30th when the New Moon will highlight the curious sign of Gemini. The New Moon in Gemini cycle presents opportunities to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Twins. It’s time to improve our communication skills by listening to others and enjoying others’ points of view, rather than doggedly seeking to find that one elusive “answer.” This is a good cycle under which to re-evaluate our communication and social skills by questioning just how much we actually take in information and communicate in a friendly, non-threatening manner. With this potent Gemini energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our thinking.
