Hi Friends,
Time to go down memory lane once again as six planets will be in retrograde motion beginning on September 9th. As I’m sure many of you are aware that when we have this many planets moving backwards things may get a little confusing and uncertain. It’s normal for the outer planets to be in retrograde for four to six months out of the year, but in September Mercury will go into reverse mode as well. As the planet of communication, Mercury retrograde tends to breed a certain level of confusion. Mercury rules our “lower” mind–how we perceive and interpret information that we receive from our environment, and how we relay that information to ourselves as well as others.
Mercury has rulership over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, listening, formal contracts, documents, travel, the mail, shipping, and commerce. All of these areas of life are affected when Mercury is functioning in a sluggish state. Decision-making is challenged during Mercury retrograde.
Needless to say, it is not advised to sign contracts, engage in important decision-making, or launch a new business. Delays and challenges are more probable with Mercury retrograde. It’s a time when being careless with money, our personal information, or paperwork can be costly….so pay attention.
Fortunately, paying attention to the small details will come a little easier this month as we begin September with the Sun moving through the analytical sign of Virgo. During this transit, it is now time to take care of practical concerns. Attending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal month to get organized, to do detailed work, and improve communications on the job. We take more pride in our work, chores, and health efforts when the Sun is in Virgo.
Towards the end of the month when the Sun moves out of Virgo and into Libra, we will be more relationship-oriented and trying to find more balance in our lives. The Sun-in-Libra cycle is especially strong for sociability and fair-mindedness. We believe in being pleasant and polite out of respect for others. Putting out good vibes and treating others as equals brings rewards and contributes to our psychological prosperity.
We’re ready to right wrongs and restore balance and harmony. The ability to get along and boost one another is powerful now. More awareness of our rights and those of others can lead to a stronger sense of self. Partnerships are in the spotlight. Mediation, counseling, public relations, partnering, and law are highlighted during this transit. One of our strengths with the Sun in Libra is the ability to find the common ground.
Any speaking of ground, we being the month with Venus entering the earth sign of Virgo on September 5th. Venus is the sign that represents partnerships, diplomacy, and fairness, while Virgo is a practical and realistic sign that values perfection. With Venus moving into “pick-it-apart” Virgo, don’t expect to find anything you like for a while. Here she will focus her many talents on analyzing every aspect of the relationships in her life. She needs to know all the details and understand why. The thought of letting her feelings just flow never really enters the picture. She’s too busy picking them apart. Fitting the pieces of the puzzle together is much more interesting.
To make matters a little more confusing, on September 9th Mercury goes retrograde in Libra. While Mercury is retrograde, we may be rethinking a previous opinion or idea. Mercury retrograde in Libra implies communication snafus in close partnerships, in particular. It is also more likely that we are especially indecisive or “on the fence” during this cycle. Try to avoid over-rationalizing sensitive matters during this reversal, I know it might be hard. Retrograde Mercury in Libra is especially slow to reach a decision – possibly painfully slow, as our minds bounce back and forth between the alternatives, finding merits for any and all of them. We might rethink old positions and relationships, and there can be a tendency for our observations to be especially idealistic.
The following day, the Full Moon highlights the mystical sign of Pisces. This lunation activates the Virgo-Pisces polarity, which is the service axis. This axis deals with the balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) verses vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces). Virgo rules our personal set of tools and techniques that we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules the tools that we use to deal with our spirituality.
The key to balance lies in identifying and expressing our spiritual needs while maintaining order in our everyday lives. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire–we would either be living in chaos or in excessive order. This Full Moon harmonizes with Uranus, suggesting an easier, more natural acceptance of change and progress with just a touch of visionary ability…so pay attention to those dreams.
Unfortunately, relationships may become a bit more volatile on September 16th when Venus square Mars. Mars represents aggression and conflict while Venus is about peace and harmony. When these two planets are in a square alignment (90 ° apart) there is always some sort of challenge, obstacle or hurdle that must be overcome with regards to others.
This transit can evoke anger, a lack of self-control, and impulsiveness. So, if you are already an impatient or aggressive person, try not to lose your temper if you face rejection. Compromise will help avoid hostility, but a tendency to agree to anything just to get your way could lead to loss and regret. There are other ways to safely express our frustrations. Physical tension can be released in productive ways like through some sort of physical activity.
The Fall Equinox (Northern Hemisphere) arrives on September 22nd as the Sun enters the balanced sign of Libra. The Sun enters Libra on the day of the autumnal equinox when the Sun is halfway around the zodiac and the days and nights are equal. There is as much of the journey left as has already been traveled. We can look as far into the past as we can into the future.
Libra, sign of the scales is all about weighing and balancing everything to ensure equality and fairness. Over the next month, our efforts are focused on creating and maintaining harmony – in our surroundings, in our relationships, in our words and deeds. To that end, we avoid confrontations, we look at both sides of every issue, and above all, we have to look our best.
We’ll be rethinking and analyzing every little event and detail on September 23rd as Mercury retrogrades back in Virgo. We haven’t been able to make many decisions while Mercury was retrograde in Libra, but now we’ve got something to do that doesn’t require a decision. More time to figure out how the pieces of the puzzle fit together. This is a good time to tie up loose ends before things start moving forward next month.
This month’s New Moon on September 25th will highlight the fair and harmonious sign of Libra. This lunation brings fresh and creative energy into our lives, and more specifically, into our relationships. This is a cycle in which balancing our close personal relationships becomes an urgent desire. Negotiations may be especially effective, as we are inclined to assert our needs in ways that don’t offend others. Because this lunation is opposite Jupiter, we should watch for exaggeration and excess.
To further enhance the Libra theme, on September 29th Venus (ruler of Libra) also enters Libra. While Venus is in this sign that she rules, we’ll get to enjoy the true essence of elegance, refinement, and beauty. Libra is associated with justice, fairness, and balance. Anything to do with the crudeness of confrontation is to be avoided at all costs. Libra is an air sign, so its energy is light and quick.
When Venus, our goddess of love, is in Libra, she brings us a sense of peace and calm. She wants to make others happy and is more than willing to compromise, sometimes to her own detriment. It is easy to see the other person’s point of view while Venus is in Libra. It’s also easy to be beguiled by a smooth talker. So be fair and be kind, but don’t give away the farm.
