March 2018 Astrology Overview

Hi All,

We have another interesting month ahead. March has always been a pivotal month where we see many changes occurring in nature as well the start of the astrological New Year. The astrological year is signified by the Sun’s movement through the twelve zodiac signs beginning with Aries on the Spring Equinox. But this year we have some cosmic activity that will make it feel as if we need to tie up loose ends and reflect on how far we have travelled. This will be because we have two Full Moons once again and a few planets going retrograde. Also, the Sun continues to make its way through the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces, whose energy is all about inner reflection and delving deep into the soul in order to uncover hidden truths and buried treasures.

We start the month with a Full Moon in Virgo on March 1st. March starts and ends with Full Moons, which will continue this strong feminine, lunar energy that has been unfolding since January 2018. Virgo energy is all about nourishing the heart and soul, and tuning into the wellbeing of your body. This is the perfect Full Moon to schedule a checkup, or to do something positive and rewarding for your health. It is also the perfect time to think about clearing out your closets, and doing away with the old. Under the influence of this Full Moon, we are also going to feel renewed and refreshed, and it may even spark some new insights or ideas that can motivate us in a new direction.

Our ideas will certainly be percolating at a faster rate on March 5th when the winged messenger enters fiery Aries. Mercury rules our thought process. It represents the speed with which we comprehend ideas and concepts, so when Mercury moves into the blazing sign of Aries, it marks a period of high-energy and frantic ideas flying around.
Mercury also rules the nervous system. The sign it is in describes how fast or slow we want to carry the message from one place to another. Mercury in Aries moves impulsively from one fire to another. It’s like going to the Indy 500…and you’re the driver.

Our love life and partnerships receive a boost on March 6th when Venus enters Aries as well. Venus represents our heart’s desire. Her energy relates to the kind of surroundings that make us feel comfortable. She is a yin planet, meaning that she is not so much pro-active, but rather, that what she wants she draws to her. One of the things Venus wants is social interaction. She wants the happy, fun, “meaningful” part of relationships. She is lovely, refined, and beautiful. And make no mistake, she is very seductive. However, when Venus is in the sign ruled by Mars, her male counterpart, she gains the energy to go out and get what she wants. During this transit we will find ourselves being a bit more aggressive when it comes to partnerships and buying things we really don’t need.

Our spiritual aspirations and philosophy on life turn inward on March 9th when Jupiter goes retrograde in Scorpio. Jupiter retrograde is a regular cycle occurring every thirteen months and lasting for about four months. Transiting Jupiter retrograde represents a time of philosophical or spiritual introspection and reflection. You will have to deal with particular issues involving growth and development, happiness and success. Where ever Jupiter retrogrades in your birth chart that is the area of growth you need to work on. During this reversal it’s important to take some extra time to take stock and make sure everything is in order before Jupiter goes direct. You may be tested to make sure you are ready to receive the good fortune, new romance, or increased wealth you seek.

The spiritual theme is amplified on March 17th with the New Moon in Pisces. During a New Moon, the yin and yang, masculine and feminine energy overlap, creating a union between the two heavenly bodies. This potency of energy offers ripe conditions for creation. Though, it’s common to feel a little blue around a Pisces New Moon as it’s a more introverted time, the upside is it’s a fantastic time for setting new intentions and using your intuition to consciously cultivate the life you want. This is one of the most magical New Moons of the year for manifesting, and is really going to guide all of us to tune in and sync up with the flow of the Universe. This Pisces New Moon energy will help us to see how we have grown, and how we have shifted into higher levels of understanding and consciousness.

A few hours later on March 17th, Mars makes its way into determined Capricorn. While Mars traverses Capricorn we should really be able to put some steam into getting our work done; not only getting it done, but being able to get our plans in order so we know what we’re doing. The strong, assertive energy of Mars is quite solid, directed, and comfortable in the masculine sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is all serious and business, feet well-placed on the ground. It will have none of this scattered, running around from our man-child Mars.

The Spring Equinox arrives (northern hemisphere) on March 20th when the Sun enters the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. To the ancient cultures this was the beginning of the Sun’s ascent into the highest point in the heavens bringing with it the warmth, fertility and growth to sustain life. In symbolic terms, Aries is a cardinal fire sign that springs upon us in a burst of exuberant energy – it is the doer, the initiator, the aggressor. The Sun is the source of all life in our universe. Without it, none of us would be here. It represents the desire to live, the craving to exist, the will to “make something of ourselves. When you combine that urge with the fire of Aries, there is sure to be a lot of physical activity going on…just the way Aries likes it.

The first Mercury retrograde of the year begins on March 22nd in Aries.
This Mercury retrograde in Aries will last until April 15th. Mercury’s change of direction in Aries is no slouch though. Mercury in Aries is already supercharged so a retrograde here will only slow it done a bit.
Only now we’ll get to do things over that we just did. Or at least, something we’ve done or thought about in the past. We may very well use this time to consider how we can avoid having to do these things again, but this backward movement, we’ll be jumping from one to the other trying to get them all done. The lesson here is about understanding the consequences of being impulsive…one of Aries favorite traits. This is a time when there are all kinds of distractions to interrupt our thought process and send us on some new tangent, but until we learn to harness these tendencies; we will be spinning our wheels but going nowhere. And our poor bodies will be getting tired out in the mean time.

Venus changes signs once again on March 30th as she enters the materialistic and sensual sign of Taurus. When you think of Venus, think of the fine, elegant women you know. Think of how easily beauty comes to them, in all aspects of their life. Think of how they know exactly what to say at just the right time. How the colors they choose are exactly right. While Venus moves through Taurus, one of the signs she rules, her energy will be exceptionally beautiful. Venus in Taurus truly enjoys the feel of fine things in life. Taurus is a sign of the earth. It is heavy and warm. Lush flowers and forests grow in its fertile valleys. It is solid and endures forever. While Venus is in Taurus, we all get to indulge our fancies and maybe even acquire a few long lasting wonders along the way.

We repeat the cycle of January as a second Full Moon (Blue Moon) occurs on March 31st in the relationship sign of Libra. Every Full Moon is a culmination of a monthly cycle, and the social Libra Full Moon is no exception as it challenges us to manage our desire for companionship with our need for independence. Our connection to others and relationships are always at the forefront during a Full Moon so this isn’t a surprise, but it is even more noticeable during the Full Moon in Libra. Because we’ll have a heightened awareness of our emotions, we’ll have to pay close attention to any inequity in our partnerships without getting overly emotional.

All the Best!
