Hi Friends,
This month we enter the unpredictable realm where anything is possible. The Full Moon at the beginning of September is requiring us to take a hard look at our spiritual beliefs, while Mercury in Libra will be asking us to find balance and tranquility. We’ll also have an opportunity for some more fun and playfulness as Venus will be visiting the flamboyant sign of Leo. However, the big news this month is the planet Mars going retrograde in Aries. This reversal is usually a game changer as our motivation to move forward slows down and we begin to look within ourselves at what we’ve accomplished and where we’re going.
When Mars is in its retrograde cycle, we are forced to re-assess our current projects, our approach to getting what we want, and our desires. Our goal during a Mars retrograde period should not be to simply sit on our impulses or to squelch our enthusiasm. Rather, it should be to better understand our impulses, our survival instincts, our anger, our sexuality, our inner courage, and the ways we go about getting what we want from life. The cosmos are asking us to look before we leap rather than throwing ourselves into action, just for the time being.
We start off September still feeling the effects of last month’s creative New Moon that energized the sign of Leo. In the first weeks we’ll be recognizing and sharing things that make us feel special, inspire us, and bringing out our uniqueness and creativity. We might aim to allow our “inner child” to come out and play, and possibly commit to plans related to games, sports, recreation, speculation, hobbies, children, romance, and dating.
On September 2nd our spiritual awareness comes-a-calling as the Full Moon highlights the mystical sign of Pisces. This lunation is reminding us of the need to consider our sacred and emotional wellness. The key to balance lies in identifying and expressing our spiritual needs while maintaining order in our everyday lives. Neglecting either end of the Virgo-Pisces axis will surely backfire—we would either be living in chaos or excessive order.
Our thinking turns to fairness and indecisiveness on September 5th when Mercury enters Libra. As Mercury moves through Libra, having to choose one alternative over another becomes very troublesome. The thought of leaving something or someone out….well, heaven forbid!
While Mercury is in Libra we’ll be looking at both sides of everything to be sure we are doing the right thing….don’t expect to come to any conclusions in a hurry. During this transit what we value most is peace and equality.
The following day, September 6th, our desire to be seen and heard increases as Venus enters self expressive Leo. When Venus is moving through Leo, she begins to shine in elegant glory. Talk about Love and Romance! Leo is big and bold and loves applause, so when Venus is here, we start wanting to get out of the cocoon and into the lime light. Romance and having fun become the main interest. Shopping for luxurious, tasteful things fits right in too. Just watch out for too much of a good thing. Leo energy can be overwhelming in the beginning, but it often fizzles at the end.
On September 9th self-assertive Mars goes retrograde in Aries. Mars will be retrograde until November 13th, entirely in the sign of Aries. Mars energy is essentially turned inward–it’s internalized, intensified, personalized, and perhaps pressurized. There can be passive-aggressive behavior during this cycle. We may be instigating problems or arguments rather than dealing with issues directly. However, this can be a good time to learn more about our inner motivations and desires, as well as to reconsider old projects and interests. Mars in retrograde is like driving your car with parking brake engaged. You won’t be able to go as fast as you’d like.
Some good news arrives on September 12th when Jupiter goes direct in Capricorn. This change of direction can mark a turning of the corner with certain projects and relationships as well as attitudes–we enjoy increased enthusiasm. With Jupiter direct, our confidence in ourselves, our beliefs, and the universe builds. We are more lighthearted and ready to share ourselves and what we’ve learned with others.
We’ll be trying to bring some order to our lives on September 17 as the New Moon highlights the meticulous sign of Virgo. The New Moon promises us opportunities to take charge of our lives through organizing, editing, and refining work as well as better attention to health. This is a fertile and productive time. We might take charge of our daily routines, work, or pursuit of new health regiments.
We begin to look for more beauty in the world as the Sun enters Libra on September 23rd. The Sun enters Libra on the day of the autumnal equinox, when the Sun is half way around the zodiac and the days and nights are equal. There is as much of the journey left as has already been traveled. We can look as far into the past as we can into the future. Libra, sign of the scales is all about weighing and balancing everything to insure equality and fairness. During this transit, our efforts are focused on creating and maintaining harmony – in our surroundings, in our relationships, in our words and deeds. To that end, we avoid confrontations, we look at both sides of every issue, and above all, everything must be pleasant.
Our thinking shifts into investigating mode on September 28th when Mercury enters Scorpio. When the planet of reason moves into the keenly perceptive sign of Scorpio; you can bet that knowledge will pour in through your skin as if by osmosis. You can become so absorbed in your mental comprehensions that the earth could fly out of its orbit and you would miss the event.
Mercury in the intense water sign of Scorpio brings a period of deep and profound thought…moving from the thrill of sexual excitement to the enlightenment of spirit. We are perceptive and aware. Not that we’ll tell anyone else about what we discover, though! Our thoughts are infused with such deep emotion that it can become just too painful to share our insights with anyone else.
Finally! Restrictive Saturn goes direct in Capricorn. Saturn turning direct is a strong reminder to take care of our responsibilities and to bring our goals down to earth. With Saturn’s direct turn, our responsibilities, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified and can be improved. Gradually, our long-term goals and plans become clearer.
